Let me say up front – I am new to this blogging thing. I actually don’t even follow any blogs, so I am discovering things as I go. Why this blog? Why now? I have just retired after 30 years in academic biomedical science research/teaching. But during the last 20 years, my husband and I have been ‘collecting’ art from mostly Arkansas artists. We are also members of several groups at the Arkansas Art Center and love to go to gallery shows. I believe the Arkansas art scene has changed dramatically and for the better over the last 10 years. The opening of Crystal Bridges in 2005 certainly exposed more Arkansans to great art. It must also have inspired local artists and given them the courage to continue to produce art for sale. The result is an increase in local artists producing great and affordable art. Commercial galleries have recognized the opportunity to represent these artists and have stepped up to help this art find a home – more about this in future musings. What I feel has been missing is an easy way for prospective buyers find out what is available. That’s why this blog.

I hope readers will check back several times each month for event updates and the occasional interview with an artist, collector or someone involved in the arts. My goal is to cover all of Arkansas. However, I acknowledge up front that this blog will be biased toward central Arkansas because that is where most of the commercial galleries are located and that’s where I live. I hope readers will use the comment section following a post to add (constructive) feedback or the Contact page to contact me directly with suggestions for posts, upcoming events or to update the Commercial Gallery or Museum lists.
